James Madison freshman dies near Holly train tracks

A 19-year-old MSU freshman was found dead Tuesday morning next to train tracks in Holly, about 20 miles south of Flint.

The body of Michael Randolph, a James Madison freshman from Owosso, was found several hours after being struck by a train, Michigan State Police trooper Mark Pravato said.

Police believe the death was a suicide. An autopsy will be performed today.

Randolph was reported missing Tuesday morning after he didn't return to his Case Hall room.

Residence Life officials said grief counselors would be made available for students in the hall.

The MSU Counseling Center, which provides counseling for depression, substance abuse, stress, family relationships, cultural identity, interpersonal conflicts, sexual assault and other areas, offers services by appointment in its offices at 207 Student Services. The Listening Ear Crisis Intervention Center, 313 W. Grand River Ave., provides 24-hour, confidential services through its crisis hotline at (517)337-1717.
