Holiday tree to be lit at Lansing celebration

Michigan's official holiday tree will be lit in downtown Lansing as part of the Silver Bells in the City event on Friday from 5-9 p.m. Michigan's First Gentleman Daniel Mulhern and his son Jack will take part in the festivities.

Other events include the Electric Light Parade with more than 58 floats and other entries decorated with lights, an eight-minute firework display, wagon rides on Washington Square and holiday music entertainment.

The Lansing Board of Water & Light's Caboose, which is part of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots program will also be at the event.

People are encouraged to donate an unwrapped toy to place in the caboose for underprivileged children.

Parking will be free after 5 p.m. in city of Lansing-owned parking ramps during the event.
