Stabenow elected to senate caucus spot

November 17, 2004

U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., was elected by Democratic senators to be their caucus secretary. This is the third-highest ranking leadership position in the Senate Democratic Caucus. Stabenow replaces U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., who decided not to seek re-election.

Stabenow, 54, was elected as a U.S. Senator in 2000 and is a Lansing resident. This term, Stabenow successfully pushed Congress into approving a ban on drilling for oil and gas in and under the Great Lakes. She is also a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs.
