WEB ONLY: RHA elects new vice president
(Last updated: 08/28/09 6:18pm) From staff reportsAnthropology junior James Thorpe was elected vice president of the Residence Halls Association during its meeting Wednesday night.
The position opened in late September with the resignation of former RHA Vice President David Sahlin. Sahlin decided to leave his post to focus on academics.
"I feel very relieved because I knew it would be a very close race," Thorpe said, adding that he intends to meet with hall governments, black caucuses and other on-campus student groups. "I am currently looking forward to introducing myself."
RHA President Kevin Newman said tasks among RHA executive board members have had to be spread among those who remained.
"We're very excited that we now have a vice president," Newman said. "We look forward to working with him."
Political theory and constitutional democracy sophomore Chris Wickman was the other candidate for the position.
