Police briefs 04/28/06

MSU freshmen Mark A. Morgan and Matthew C. Thomas were arraigned Thursday on charges of criminal enterprising, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. Morgan and Thomas are two of 11 students named in arrest warrants for involvement in a money laundering scam that resulted in a more than $57,100 loss at the MSU Federal Credit Union. Criminal enterprising is a felony with a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and/or a maximum $100,000 fine. The two students turned themselves in after police notified them that warrants were issued Tuesday for their arrest. Their bond was set at $5,000 each, and their preliminary examinations will be at 9 a.m. May 5 at East Lansing's 54-B District Court.A 21-year-old student employee reported she found a counterfeit $5 bill given at the Bryan Hall front desk between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, McGlothian-Taylor said. There are no suspects, and the U.S. Secret Service will take over the investigation.A 19-year-old student reported a chair was stolen from a North Wonders Hall storage area between 11 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The storage area was left open, and there are no suspects. The loss is estimated at $150.Melissa Domsic
