Granholm, DeVos wager on Series with Missouri governor

October 23, 2006

Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Republican challenger Dick DeVos made wagers with Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt on the 2006 World Series between the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals.

If the Tigers win, Granholm will send to Blunt a Little Caesars pizza and a case of Vernors Ginger Ale (both Michigan-made products), a Detroit Tigers jersey and a sign that reads, "Jim Leyland is my Tiger." Blunt would also have to call into Mitch Albom's show on WJR Radio and sing "Take me Out to the Ballgame."

If the Tigers lose, Granholm will be sent Missouri-brand steak and wine, Budweiser beer and a St. Louis Cardinals jersey. Granholm will also read a chapter from "Three Nights in August," a book by Buzz Bissinger about Cardinals' manager Tony La Russa, and call in to host McGraw Millhaven's show, the "Big 550."

DeVos would receive a selection of Missouri beer, ham, wine, a six-pack of Budweiser Select and a copy of "Three Nights in August" if the Tigers win the World Series title.

If the Tigers lose, DeVos will send Blunt a case of Faygo Redpop and Vernors, Michigan microbrews and hot dogs from American and Lafayette Coney Islands.
