Seven members of Cincinnati's football coaching staff have resigned on the heels of former head coach Mark Dantonio's departure and are likely to assume a role on Dantonio's staff at MSU.
Tom Hathaway, Cincinnati's assistant athletics director, confirmed the resignations Wednesday afternoon and said the coaches will return to prepare and coach Cincinnati in its bowl game.
The coaches who resigned are:
• Offensive coordinator Don Treadwell
• Tight ends coach Mark Staten
• Defensive line coach Ted Gill
• Linebackers coach Mike Tressel
• Secondary coach Harlon Barnett
• Offensive line coach Dan Roushar
• Quarterbacks coach Dave Warner
Defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, Cincinnati's interim head coach, told the university it has until Dec. 6 to offer him the permanent head coaching position, or he will take the defensive coordinator job Dantonio has offered him at MSU, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported on Wednesday.
"I was almost on a plane to Michigan State on Monday night, too," Narduzzi told The Enquirer. "But for our kids, for this program here, I'm hanging out hoping something good is going to happen as far as being the head football coach.
"I have one job (offer) right now and that's at Michigan State University. My only job is up there."
It's unclear if these coaches will hold the same positions at MSU or if any of the Spartans' current assistants will be retained.
MSU offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland and quarterbacks coach Dan Enos are the two most likely to remain. After John L. Smith was fired, several recruits told The State News their decision to stay committed to MSU hinged on Stoutland's status on the coaching staff. Enos, who joined MSU's staff before the 2006 season, served under Dantonio as the Bearcats' quarterbacks coach from 2004-05.
