WEB UPDATE: Dantonio names his staff

December 1, 2006

After Mark Dantonio left Cincinnati to become the head football coach at MSU, seven members of his coaching staff resigned.

On Thursday, Dantonio announced that four of those coaches would join him at MSU, and today, he announced the other three would also be part of the Spartans coaching staff.

The seven coaches are secondary coach Harlon Barnett, linebackers and special teams coach Mike Tressel, quarterbacks coach Dave Warner, offensive coordinator Don Treadwell, defensive line coach Ted Gill, offensive line coach Dan Roushar and tight ends/tackles coach Mark Staten.

Dantonio decided to bring his Cincinnati staff instead of retaining the staff of former head coach John L. Smith. Dantonio has not decided if he'll retain Dan Enos, who was MSU's quarterbacks coach in 2006 and held that position under Dantonio at Cincinnati from 2004-05.

"In terms of the past staff, they're excellent coaches, they're good people, but we're just going to go in a different direction mainly because of the loyalty to my coaches, and they know how we do things," Dantonio said.
