Comley named coach of year finalist

MSU hockey head coach Rick Comley has been named one of 11 finalists for the Spencer Penrose Award, which is awarded to college hockey's top coach of the season by the American Hockey Coaches Association.

Comley previously won the award in 1980 and in 1991, a year when Comley won his lone national championship.

Other finalists for this year's honor include Notre Dame's Jeff Jackson, New Hampshire's Dick Umile and Maine's Tim Whitehead. Comley's Spartans and Whitehead's Black Bears will play each other in the NCAA Tournament national semifinal game 4 p.m. Thursday. in St. Louis.
