Tweet Apartments in the complex will be available to upperclassman undergraduates who are in good standing with the university, said Angela Brown, University Housing director. "We have nothing like this on campus square-footage-wise," Brown said. "They are larger, and students are paying for the bedroom." The apartments will consist of a kitchen, living room and dining area, two bathrooms and four bedrooms. As with all university apartments, University Village will include water, heat, air conditioning, electric, cable and ethernet connections. The apartments will be fully furnished and smoke-free. "Creating residential apartment-style facilities requires a fresh approach," said Chuck Gagliano, assistant vice president for Housing and Food Services. "Students will be living on campus with the amenities and features of traditional off-campus apartments." The recommended rent rate for each apartment is $600 a month per bedroom, or $2,400 per apartment, with either nine-month or 12-month contracts. University Village is the first student housing construction since Holden Hall in 1967. The former University Village and Cherry Lane apartments were similar in construction because they were built around the same time, said Adam Koivisto, University Apartments manager. Those apartments were built to house student-families. However, the new housing will not be offered to families or students with children. "We will have 300 bedroom spaces or 76 apartments available," Brown said. Students can view floor plans, photos and obtain sign-up information of the new apartments at www.uh.msu.edu/uv.
