Albert Avenue will be closed between Bailey Street and Collingwood Drive starting today. Bailey Street also will be closed between Grand River Avenue and Albert Avenue.
Albert Avenue will remain closed for six to eight weeks, while Bailey Street will be closed until the middle of 2008, said Lori Mullins, East Lansing's senior project manager.
The closures will make way for the Stonehouse III project to be completed.
The project includes a 122-space parking structure topped by 36 condominiums. Its projected date for completion is May or June 2008, Mullins said.
The eastbound traffic from Albert Avenue will be redirected to Grand River Avenue by way of Division Street.
"There's already so much construction on campus - I can't go anywhere," said Cody Surles, a social relations senior who lives on the 200 block of Bailey Street.
Westbound motorists on Albert Avenue also will be detoured to Ann Street by traveling on Collingwood Drive.
Lot 7, behind Taco Bell on Grand River Avenue, also will be closed because of Stonehouse III's construction. Customers will be relocated to Lot 11, west of the construction site, Mullins said.
Valley Court Drive also will continue to be closed until mid-July because of construction on the West Village redevelopment project.
Abood Properties Inc., the project's developer, is constructing the first phase of townhomes along Grand River Avenue. These seven townhomes are projected for completion by late summer or early fall, said Emily Soracco, a spokeswoman for West Village.
Construction on the next eight of the 15 total townhomes is expected to begin in the next few months, she said.
The developer began selling the townhomes four weeks ago, and about 30 percent have been sold.
