Grand Traverse Pie Company to open doors in Brookfield
Grand Traverse Pie Company, a bakery café founded by two MSU graduates, is scheduled to open its 11th Michigan location next month in East Lansing.
A sugary smell of warm, baked pies will greet customers when the shop opens its doors Oct. 8 in Brookfield Plaza on the corner of Grand River Avenue and Hagadorn Road.
Mike Busley and his wife, Denise, still operate the original Grand Traverse Pie Company founded in Traverse City 11 years ago. Busley said the original goal of the shop was to recapture the craft of baking pies.
“If it weren’t for grandmas, I don’t know that we would know what real pie tastes like,” he said.
Besides its namesake, Grand Traverse Pie Company’s menu includes other baked goods and breads, cookies and cakes, wraps, sandwiches, salads and soups.
The shop will offer an indoor-outdoor fireplace and outdoor patio facing Hagadorn Road. All the exterior remodeling for the shop is part of a 10-year plan to upgrade the shopping center, Brookfield Plaza owner Robert Phipps said.
