The MSU medical school branch expansion

“The College of Human Medicine will actually grow; it will grow in faculty and it will grow in research. There will be a growth of physicians and faculty in the College of Human Medicine because there are research opportunities that are being structured in West Michigan.”

Student on- and off-campus housing

“The university will continue to renovate student housing and the next project is Mayo Hall and then the Brody Complex in order to make the residence halls as attractive to students as possible. I’m really positive about the East Village development and there are a lot of interesting opportunities for student housing along Michigan Avenue.”

International students and studies

“The number of international students continue to grow and the number of students studying abroad continue to grow. We are trying to increase the number of internships and other engagement activities and we are also trying to increase the number of graduate students studying abroad.”

Free speech

“We are in a position where values are being tested by particular student groups, and that has been the history of the university over a very long period of time. We continue to work with student groups and we are trying very hard to not make content specific policies. We are trying to find a way of getting more of the community to get behind some of the rules and engagement of civil discourse.”
