Wisconsin defeats MSU

January 3, 2008

CORRECTION: The original headline implied MSU won the game. It was changed to correct that error.

The MSU women’s basketball team could not find the missing piece in Wednesday’s game against Wisconsin.

The Spartans (9-6 overall, 1-2 Big Ten) ended an eight-game winning streak against the Badgers (8-5, 1-2) with a final score of 84-71.

Down by four points at the half, the Spartans came into the second lagging. A 21-8 run with 2:21 remaining was enough to bring the Spartans within six points of the Badgers, but still forced them to send the Badgers to the free throw line in a failed last minute effort to bring it back.

Allyssa DeHaan scored a season high at 27 points, which included 11 drained free throws. The free throws were a career high for free throws attempted as well as made. DeHaan also tacked on 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

MSU returns at noon Sunday at Breslin to tip off against Penn State.
