Despite some snow flurries, Michigan voters created a better turnout than expected for today’s presidential primary.
“It’s been quite wonderful,” said Barbara Backus, chairwoman of Wilson Hall precinct. Backus said at one point there were about 15-20 students lined up to vote earlier in the day.
At about 4 p.m. the Wilson Hall precinct had 144 voters and The Peoples Church, 200 W. Grand River Ave. had about 190 voters.
“There’s a lot more students this election than there were last fall for city elections,” said John Hansen, chairman of The Peoples Church precinct.
Hansen said the weather has an effect on the number of voters that show up.
“There are fair weather voters, for better or for worse,” he said.
Despite a small lull in both precincts midafternoon, Hansen said he is predicting a rush of voters at 6 or 6:30 p.m.
