American mental health care inferior to aid provided in Iraq

Don’t look now, but Iraq is making a move that advances them beyond the U.S. in one area.

Sure it’s because of terrorist bombers, but Iraq is still providing better care for the poor and mentally ill than our very own U.S.

I have a cousin who is mentally ill and also struggles with a drug addiction. Our government has given him money for drug rehab, but not psychological treatment. Several times, he has “gotten over” his drug addiction, going drug free for several months, only to have his mental condition — diagnosed schizophrenia — drive him back.

My aunt and uncle’s resources are understandably running dry from 10-plus years of treatment. Maybe I should suggest she send my cousin to Iraq…
