E.L. students should trump expansion projects abroad

Reading about MSU’s recent expansion into Dubai got me wondering: What about the students right here in Michigan? Why is it that expansion into other countries seems to be more important to our president than providing an excellent, quality world-grant education right here at home?

Though reaching out is important, it should not be overlooked that bringing the world to our home campus is just as critical. Not to mention, how is this new overseas university being paid for? Our resources are already diminished — is university leadership draining the piggy bank further to establish a campus thousands of miles away from MSU’s real constituents?

MSU students in East Lansing will be the first participants in Michigan’s new role in the globalized economy. President Lou Anna K. Simon should not overestimate the need to internationalize the game on her own home court. Go white! Go green! Go global at State!
