I never really understood, why you have to be enrolled for 30 days. If you dont have the money, it forces you to borrow before using the GI Bill. Why cant the university roll over the costs of that first month and tack it on to the last month or waive the $1100 for GI Bill veterans. It would be awesome if the state gave the perk that the state of Wisconsin gets:

	(from http://dva.state.wi.us/Ben_education.asp)

“The Wisconsin G.I. Bill provides a full waiver (“remission”) of tuition and fees for eligible veterans and their dependents for up to 8 full-time semesters or 128 credits at any University of Wisconsin System (UWS) or Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) institution for continuing education, or for study at the undergraduate or graduate level.

In accordance with 2005 Wisconsin Act 468, signed into law by Governor Jim Doyle on Memorial Day 2006 and effective with the 2007-08 academic year, the tuition remission is a full 100% of tuition and fees. (Beginning with the 2005 Fall semester under 2005 Wisconsin Act 25, sections 702m, 702n, 709m, and 709n, the remission provided to dependents was 100% and to veterans was 50% remission.”

I agree that something more needs to be done to help vets who wish to attend college. I was able to participate in the GI bill after Viet Nam and while it didn’t pay the whole cost like the original WWII GI bill did it sure went a long way in helping me graduate with two degrees. It always strikes me as odd that patriotic ferver ends whenever it might actually cost someone some money. Maybe “it never came up” but now it seems to have so what’s keeping MSU from doing more then talking. Oh, I forgot, talk is cheap.
