Neitzel named to All-Big Ten team

After an up-and-down senior season, MSU guard Drew Neitzel was recognized by his efforts by the Big Ten coaches and was named to the first-team All-Big Ten team.

Neitzel, who averages 13.4 points and 4.2 assists per game, ranks third in the nation with a 3.07-1 assist-turnover ratio. The honor comes shortly after he was named a second-team Academic All-American. He also was MSU’s Big Ten sportsmanship honoree.

A four-year starter, Neitzel currently ranks 15th in MSU career scoring (1,448) and fourth in career assists (565). His .859 free-throw shooting percentage is good for second all-time.

Sophomore forward Raymar Morgan, freshman guard Kalin Lucas and junior co-captain Travis Walton also received honors. Morgan, MSU’s leading scorer, was a consensus second-team member while Lucas was named to the honorable mention list. Walton was named to the All-Defensive team for the second-consecutive season.

What a complete joke this is. I am happy for him but anybody who watched or followed MSU basketball this season knows that Drew shouldn’t have been recognized for anything other then a major disappointment up to this point. How can you be named to first team all big ten team when you have shown zero consistency and sucked on the road?

What a joke! He is so overrated.

I agree that Neitzel was named to 1st team for his 4yr accomplishments and not play for this season alone. But for the clown that posted before me, you need to drop dead. Saying he is overrated is only a bigger joke than what you have between your legs. (now thats probably a joke) Not only would any coach in the NCAA want Neitzel on their team, they would kill to have a kid like him play ball at their school. He gives everything he has EVERY GAME and no one can expect more from a player. It’s easy to rip him this year for a down performance, but we’ve come to expect nothing less than 28pts a game from him. We should be talking about the 5 other guards on the team that struggle to hit consistent jumpers. Neitzel draws the best opponent defender, game in and game out. He also, recieves 2-3 defenders attention when running off screens. Why do you think we get so many wide open looks for Suton, Naymick, Morgan…..everyone. Because our 5 foot 10 star draws thatmuch attention.

Go back to the drawing board if you want to rip on Neitzel. Show me anybody with his lack of explosion and size, that can still draw that much attention….....crickets buddy…crickets…nobody

Just like you Left Handed Spartan…a nobody

GO GREEN, I will be backing you til the final horn.

Congrats to Drew. Sometimes I wonder if people on a basketball post even watch the games? “ranks third in the nation with a 3.07-1 assist-turnover ratio.” “13.4 points and 4.2 assists per game” I am not sure if that says third in the nation or not? How can you claim he is a joke? DJ Coatrack is right. The fair weather fans make me sick. Neezy is a stud, Eric Gordan is a stud then who???? He carried the program himself last year and matured into a teacher this year. I’m sure Lucas thinks he deserves it. Coaches vote for the B-10 teams. Clearly Neezy earned enough votes. Keep crying, no one cares. See you in the Final Four.

Why are you making excuses for him? If you are a great player you get double teamed, the cream of the crop rise to that and still are very productive. There are good college players and there are great overall players. Drew is just a good college player, nothing more nothing less. Let’s not make this kid out to be a god, maybe this year any coach would want him on their team but back in high school he wasn’t highly recruited for a reason. He is slow, undersized and cannot create his own shot unless pefect screens happen

This is pathetic and one of the reasons that the Big Ten is pissed on by all of the NCAA’s elite conferences. Neitzel had a joke of a season, scored 6 or less points in about 10 individual games, and was a gross disappointment. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

You get elected to the Hall of Fame for your career-long accomplishments, not to the All-Big Ten Team. Izzo wonders why the “Big Tens gets so maligned”???? THIS is why.

Kailin Lucas had a 10x better season than Drew “Missing in Action” Neitzel.

Drew should be voted onto the All Big-Ten Bad Haircuts Team for his God awful, low brow shaved head.

with such a nice hair-line thus presumably nice head of hair, why does want to look like a low-brow thug instead of the nice, educated college gentleman that he is??

anyone, anyone?
