ASMSU plans budget for fall concert

Members of ASMSU’s Student Assembly will consider a bill during tonight’s meeting asking representatives to determine how much money to allocate for the iVote concert planned for this fall.

ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government.

Kyle Dysarz, Student Assembly vice chairperson for external affairs, said although the bill didn’t request a specific amount of funding, the group would need to allocate about $225,000 to include all the programs originally proposed for the quarter-million-dollar concert.

“After we realized this was not going to happen this spring, we looked at what type of steps it would take to move it to the fall,” Dysarz said. “With more time and sponsorships, we could still pull off the same quality event with a less amount of money.”

Michael Webber, Student Assembly chairperson, said the decision to allocate a quarter-million dollars from the group’s risk management fund was made by members of the 44th session and now the new assembly will have a chance to decide what type of event it wants.

“We’re going to ask the 45th session what they think is the proper amount to allocate and go from there,” Webber said.

Dysarz said the amount of money the assembly allocates for the concert will affect the type of concert ASMSU is able to host.

“If it’s a lower amount of money, then they don’t want as big of an event,” Dysarz said.

However, the assembly must make a decision tonight if it wants to hold the concert in the fall, Dysarz said.

“If the assembly doesn’t allocate any money for it, there’s no time for planning,” Dysarz said.

Bryan Buckley, ASMSU’s Interfraternity Council representative, said he thought the concert was a great idea, but would be hesitant to allocate a quarter-million dollars again.

“I don’t think it had to be as big as we were planning last semester,” Buckley said. “I don’t know if the plan is the same thing as last semester or they want to try something different this semester.”
