Hello, my name is Matt Murray

Rock climbing, hiking and caving are just a few of Matt Murray’s regular activities.

As co-president of MSU’s Outdoors Club, the history and economics junior said he came to college wanting to meet other people who shared his interests.

“I was always hiking and camping, canoeing and kayaking,” he said.

Murray said he found the club at Party at the Aud and joined right away.

The club has more than 600 members, but Murray said it has a very loose structure. About 250 members pay dues to rent equipment, and 50-60 attend weekly meetings, he said.

“It’s more of a network, really, because they’re trips we’d do anyway and you just use the club to find other people who want to go with you,” the 21-year-old said.

Murray said students go on trips pretty much every week, sometimes local and other times to places that require a longer drive. He said the best part of the club is the members.

“Everyone in the club is very chill and into the same kind of activities,” he said. “I always have something in common with the other people.”
