Latino students protest border issues
Students of the Latino community gathered Wednesday at the bridge between Wells Hall and the Computer Center to simulate border control between the United States and Mexico.
Chicanos y Latinos Unidos and Movimiento Estudiantil Xicano de Aztlan put on the protest to raise awareness of unfair practices at the border, said Adriana Abundis, an advertising freshman.
“People are being killed at the border, people are being deported from America and Mexican women are being raped and killed at the border every day,” Abundis said.
To highlight immigration issues, students would not allow peers to cross the bridge without a photo ID, she said.
Students who did not present identification were given a pamphlet about border issues and released.

Abundis is ridiculous in implying that our border agents are responsible for the killings and rapes that may or may not occur at the border. There are people down there who “help” illegals get across the border, but take advantage of them and abuse them in the process. But let’s not acknowledge that, let’s just pin the responsibility on the authority figures down there, enlisted and trained voluntarily to uphold the law of our land, guard our internationally-recognized borders, and protect our country’s citizens. Yeah, let’s blame them.
