Murder, arson, assault trials continue into summer
While The State News will be on hiatus during the next couple weeks, the court system will not rest. Here is a look at the upcoming cases, as well as those that will take place in the next few months.
SirDarean Adams case on hold
The former MSU linebacker faces misdemeanor assault charges in Mason’s 55th District Court stemming from the April 2007 robbery outside L & L Food Center, 6075 N. Hagadorn Road. A pretrial hearing scheduled for April 3 was adjourned and has yet to be rescheduled.
Matthew Macon trial
The trial for suspected serial killer Matthew Macon, who is charged with three August murders in Lansing, is scheduled to begin Monday in the Ingham County Circuit Court. The trial was originally scheduled for late February, but Macon’s attorney asked for a postponement to analyze DNA reports the prosecution turned over as evidence. Macon is charged in the murders of 56-year-old Linda Jackson, 41-year-old Karen Delgado-Yates and 64-year-old Sandra Eichorn.
T.J. Williams trial
The sophomore and former cornerback-wide receiver faces charges of larceny from the person and aggravated assault stemming from the same April 2007 incident involving SirDarean Adams. Williams is scheduled to go to trial Tuesday in the Ingham County Circuit Court, but that case will be held until a later date. No further proceedings have been scheduled at this time.
Arson hearings
Pretrial hearings for Marie Mason, Stephanie Fultz and Aren Burthwick, three of the four individuals charged in connection with the New Year’s Eve 1999 arson at Agriculture Hall, are scheduled for May 12 at the U.S. District Court in Kalamazoo. Jury trials for the three are scheduled for May 27. Each member of the group is charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit arson, aggravated arson and arson.
