Academic All-District

Five Spartans were recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America and ESPN The Magazine on Thursday for their accomplishments in athletics and academics this school year.

Senior rower Kate Burdick, field hockey sophomore Jeamie Deacon, and hockey junior Jeff Lerg received First-Team Academic All-District honors, while women’s golf senior Sara Brown and hockey senior Jeff Dunne were recognized on the second team.

Rowing

MSU women’s rowing coach Matt Weise was named the Central Region’s Coach of the Year last Wednesday by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

“The honor really is indicative of your team and staff’s work,” Weise said. “It really is a team award.”

This is the second time Weise has won the regional award, his first coming in 2005. He also was named Big Ten Coach of the Year this season.

Earlier this month, Weise helped guide the rowers to the school’s first regional title and second Big Ten Championship.
