McClellan's book allows inside look at administration

Whatever happened to the idea of “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil?”

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan has released a tell-all book that could mean the demise of President George W. Bush and his administration.

In his book, titled “What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception,” McClellan speaks up about the ways Bush tried to promote the Iraq war and how officials knowingly allowed him to release misleading information to the public.

McClellan worked for Bush when he was Texas’ governor and became the press secretary in July 2003. He left the White House in April 2006.

Republican critics are calling McClellan a sellout and a disgruntled former employee, but this book might possibly be the key to clearing up the haziness around the Bush administration.

Thus far, there’s no way to tell if the information McClellan has released in the book is the truth, but it shouldn’t be dismissed as a get-rich-quick scheme.

If anything, the book is grounds for an investigation of Bush and his administration.

It’s kind of hard to believe that McClellan would risk damaging his reputation for the sake of money. He’s been with Bush since his days as governor of Texas, so why the sudden change?

There’s a possibility that a guilty conscience did lead him to write this book.

It would be interesting to know what he’s planning to do with the profits the book generates. If he’s going to donate the money to a foundation of some sort, that would speak volumes about his motivations.

But if he plans to live comfortably off of the money for years to come, then that would also tell us whether he’s a believable source.

The timing of the book also calls to question the reasons behind the its publication. If McClellan was truly looking to hurt the Republican party, wouldn’t it have made more sense to release the book at a later date — possibly around the time of the convention?

Whether McClellan wrote this book for the love of money or to reveal the truths behind the Bush administration, if this information is true, it’s important that the public know.

If more people take the initiative to question what the government is doing, then maybe next time we can contain the situation before it gets too out of hand, as in the case of the Iraq war.

One can only hope that this book will allow Americans to see a side of the government they wouldn’t have otherwise seen.
