MSU golfers make conference squad

June 4, 2008

Graduated senior Ryan Brehm and senior Randy Hutchison were selected to the Division I PING All-Midwest Region Team on Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

“I’m very excited for both guys,” MSU head coach Sam Puryear said. “They both worked very hard for the team throughout the season.”

This is the third time Brehm has been named to the team, while Hutchinson earned the award for the first time.

Brehm’s legacy at MSU includes four straight seasons on the All-Big Ten team and a school record for career individual title wins with five.

“It is tough losing Ryan but there is a transition in every sport,” Puryear said. “We can’t recruit a player like him, but we can hope that our young guys will develop and step up in his place.”

Hutchison emerged his junior season, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors for the first time. Puryear expects him to continue playing well and lead the team next year.

“I want to see him work on some aspects of his game for next season,” he said. “I know he will work hard and come ready to play next year.”
