MSU researcher's trial rescheduled

June 19, 2008

A court hearing for a visiting MSU research associate from the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center for illegal use of the Internet was postponed Thursday.

Iqbal Munir faces charges of child sexually abusive activity and illegal use of the Internet after allegedly planning a sexual meeting with whom he believed to be a 14-year-old girl. He was scheduled to appear Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Hamtramck 31st District Court.

The hearing has been postponed by Munir’s request and is rescheduled for July 3 at 8:30 a.m. at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice in Detroit.

The alleged girl Munir was chatting with was a Wayne County police deputy, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Munir, 39, allegedly drove from East Lansing to an unidentified location in Wayne County to meet the nonexistent girl on June 6.
