Former captain back on staff

By Alex DiFilippo (Last updated: 07/23/08 8:23pm)

Former MSU hockey player Damon Whitten has been named MSU Director of Hockey Operations, hockey head coach Rick Comley announced Wednesday.

Whitten will replace Keith McKittrick, who joined the Detroit Red Wings’ staff earlier this month.

Whitten began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Spartans in the 2003-04 season before moving on to be an assistant coach at Wayne State and Alaska Anchorage.

Whitten will be responsible for team video operations, travel and alumni relations.

During his playing days, Whitten was a four-year letterwinner and the alternate captain in 2001, his senior season.
