MSU professors recognized by U.S. EPA
Two MSU professors won the 2008 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for their work in pollution prevention.
Robert Maleczka and Milton Smith received the award, which was announced June 24, for their work that resulted in an environmentally friendly method for making compounds used to make pharmaceuticals and pesticides, reducing the amount of hazardous waste associated with the process.
The Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge promotes research of alternatives to existing technologies that reduce or eliminate waste in industrial production. The winners are selected from a group of nearly 100 nominated technologies.
