The university and The State News are still at a disagreement when it comes to the public’s right to information after 2 1/2 years.

Let it go SN. I am sure fighting the FOIA fight makes you feel like a real newspaper, but instead of this ridiculous lawsuit maybe you should focus on your crappy editorials. That would actually improve your credibility.

Agreed. Let the victim go on with her life. Don’t make her relive it all just so you can sell a couple papers (although at $0.00 a piece, your profit margin will be pretty low).

This is kind of a strange battle, I thought we were all on the same side here. State News and Michigan State living in Harmony. I would like to know some more information about this though. I was just a Soph sitting in my Math class at Wells when I first read it. I can’t believe this is still going on.

Don’t you understand? This is bigger than one case, although this was certainly a case to be made public. If they rule we have no right to know about this, what about a murder on campus? Or, what if they decide they don’t want people to know about a robbery in your residence hall? Maybe we should just let the U have and do what it wants, no holds barred.

If this is about the public’s right to know then why does the SN often withhold relevent information about crimes? How often does it not provide a physical description (hair color, race) of suspects? Very often. The SN picks and chooses what details they feel is important. This is little more than a publicity stunt by the SN. As the other posts have said, focus on writing better editorials, etc. than maybe this second rate paper will get more respect.
