MSU student dead after car accident Wednesday

Three MSU students and two people with no MSU affiliation were involved in Wednesday’s fatal crash on U.S. 127, Lansing police Lt. Noel Garcia said.

Joseph Barton, a 20-year-old MSU student, was pronouced dead at Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital after the crash. Melissa Rumrill, a 19-year-old MSU student, was in the same vehicle and is in critical condition at Sparrow.

A second vehicle was driven by Kristopher Amos, a 19-year-old MSU student. Amos suffered minor injuries, but has been treated and released from Sparrow, Lt. Garcia said.

Shanto Whiting and Gina Guinn, both 30 years old with no MSU affiliation, were in the last vehicle. They suffered injuries, but also have been treated and released.
Police have not released who was driving each vehicle.
