Cedar Fest rioter sentenced to jail, $2,000 fine

By Marilyn King (Last updated: 08/07/08 6:42pm)

An 18-year-old Bloomfield Hills man was sentenced to 30 days in the Ingham County Jail on Wednesday for his participation in the Cedar Fest riot.

Phillip Garcia, who pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor offense of damaging property during the riot, was sentenced by 54-B East Lansing District Court Judge David L. Jordon.

Garcia is required to pay a total of $2,214.40 in costs and fees.

Of these fines, $1,074.40 are restitution fees to the city of East Lansing for police work expenses, emergency medical and fire services, as well as damage done to personal property during the Cedar Fest riot.

The court also entered an order prohibiting Garcia from enrolling or entering any Michigan public community college or university campus for one year.

interesting that there’s no report of the kid who was found not guilty on all counts wednesday, and who the courts essentially put on house arrest with no justification all summer. To me that’s a much more relevant story.

Great journalism there statenews!!!

I was upset how many of the people arrested that night doing dumb sh*t were people went to bullsh*t schools: Ferris, SVSU, etc.

I am so sick of hearing about who got arrested and charged as a result of the cedar fest riots. Seriously there are more important things happening in the world than this. DROP IT ALREADY!!!!

Losers

I too am sick of hearing about these low-lifes that come here and destroy our schools reputation. Publishing stories about them months later, only gives them a sense of importance and makes their pathetic lives come to the forefront of our newspaper. Leave it alone, and stop clogging our “news” paper with updates on these scumbags.

^ please refrain from ever opening your mouth again.

My friend has jury selection for his trial tomorrow (he wasn’t even at cedar fest and still got charged with 5 riot related offenses due to a police officer fabricating a police report), and I would like to think that there are rational people in this state and not complete fucking idiots like you have proven to be. Hopefully, he gets a jury willing to actually hear the facts of the case and not Losers like the poster above me, we can only hope.

whats more interesting is that what the hell was a guy from 4th wealthiest city in US was doing in EL?

I can't come up with a snarky name

‘he wasn’t even at cedar fest and still got charged with 5 riot related offenses due to a police officer fabricating a police report’

So a police officer just opened a phone book and picked his name out? I’m sure a jury will buy that.

“My friend has jury selection for his trial tomorrow (he wasn’t even at cedar fest and still got charged with 5 riot related offenses due to a police officer fabricating a police report)”

Maybe your friend can practice his story here and we can help him with it.
