E.L. Change a Light Day provides low cost energy efficient bulbs
By Jeff Kanan (Last updated: 09/30/08 9:19pm)The city of East Lansing is partnering with local stores to provide energy efficient compact fluorescent lightbulbs, or CFLs, at a reduced rate.
The East Lansing City Council passed a resolution last week making Wednesday Change a Light Day in the city. Participating area Ace Hardware stores will be offering discounted rates on the bulbs.
Urban Options, 405 Grove Street, will hold a special sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, where residents can also drop off non-broken burned-out CFLs to be recycled by the city.
Additionally, about 500,000 CFLs will be available for as low as 99 cents at Kroger, Meijer and Menards stores across the state beginning Wednesday, in part because of a state grant.
CFLs save at least $30 in energy during a bulb’s lifetime, according to the Michigan Public Service Commission.
