MSU men's basketball schedule released

By Cash Kruth (Last updated: 09/03/08 8:37pm)

The MSU men’s basketball team released its schedule for the 2008-09 basketball season, with several nonconference matchups drawing interest.

After opening the season at home Nov. 16 against Idaho, the Spartans will take part in the Old Spice Classic during Thanksgiving weekend in Orlando, Fla.

The Spartans open the tournament Nov. 27 against Maryland. If they win, the Spartans advance to play the winner of Gonzaga and Oklahoma State. A win in that game would set up a potential meeting with Tennessee or Georgetown.

MSU and North Carolina play at 9 p.m. Dec. 3 in Detroit, and they travel south to play Texas on Dec. 20 at the Toyota Center in Houston.

The Spartans open Big Ten play at Minnesota on Dec. 31 and host Ohio State in its Big Ten home opener on Jan. 6.

After playing three games in the Big Ten, the Spartans host defending national champion Kansas on Jan. 10.

The Spartans end the season hosting Purdue either on March 7 or 8.
