Retro hippie chick fashions cheap, feminine wardrobe

September 11, 2008

The State News met up with Lyman Briggs sophomore Alexa Schneider, who doesn’t have to spend a lot of money on designer duds to look stylish with her low-budget, retro style. While college students traditionally don’t have a lot of money to spend, particularly on expensive clothes, Schneider proves you can still look stylish without breaking the bank by finding clearance items and shopping at secondhand stores.

The Student: Alexa Schneider, Lyman Briggs sophomore

The State News: How would you describe your style?

Alexa Schneider: I think it would be retro vintage. Kind of hippie, I guess. It’s super feminine, too. I wear a lot of skirts and dresses and boots and heels.

SN: Where do you get most of your clothing?

AS: I get a lot of my clothes from the Gap. Only on clearance, though, I don’t spend more than $10 or $15 on anything. Salvation Army, a lot. It’s kind of gross, I guess, but I like it. And Old Navy, Marshalls, TJ Maxx.

SN: How has your style changed since coming to college?

AS: I think it’s gotten better since coming to school. In high school I had to get up at 5 a.m., so I would wear pajamas with no makeup and my glasses. But now that I can sleep in I dress up more.

SN: How does your wardrobe change seasonally?

AS: I wear the same things. I just layer and I wear tights and boots with dresses.

SN: How would you say accessories help make up your style?

AS: I wear bangles, those are from Claire’s. I wear a lot of necklaces, and a lot of rings because they just look sweet and they make you glitter.
