Unless you’re a member of the MSU football program, on his family tree or part of his Fave Five, Brian Hoyer probably doesn’t care what you think about the way he plays football.

Good, He is our qb and he shouldn’t listen to people who don’t know anything about playing qb. Because if they were so good they would be the qb at MSU. LETS GO HOYER, Lets take fight out of the Irish!

That same old argument is so flawed. You don’t have to be good at something yourself to know when that thing is being done poorly by someone else:

I’m not a dentist, but I can tell the difference between good ones and bad ones when I’m opening wide in that reclining chair.

I’m not an author, but I know when I’ve just enjoyed a great book or read a flop.

Finally, I’m not a quarterback, but I can tell when one is taking charge of an important game or stinking up the field.

I think what people have been trying to say is that it takes a pro at something to know HOW to fix a problem they’re seeing, but any Joe can see that there IS a problem! That said, I won’t pretend to know how to fix the problems with our passing game, but I hope (for Ringer’s sake – no discredit to what that man can do, though) that it gets resolved quickly.

I totally agree with Lee…I am glad however that Hoyer is not listening to the nay-sayers, and I have been one of them and continue to be. The only thing saving him this week is that Jimmy “santa” Claussen is the most overrated qb of all time…he will stink up the joint, make our defense look unbelieveable and allow MSU to run, run, run, thus preventing Hoyer from having to be our savior…I hope I’m wrong, but if he’s our qb all season, we’re in for a long one.

I agree with Lee….and viva Hoyer, all at the same time. Jason: good point!

Let’s hope that the O line can manage the ND front 7, that Ringer runs well. This will open up the controlled passing game for Hoyer. “Controlled” in the sense that we will not need heroics, just consistent, possession-style plays…stuff good for 1st downs. Ball control = clock control = game management = “W” for MSU. When Hoyer is calm good things happen. When he’s rattled he tends to over-throw his receivers, look the same receiver from the start, force the pass into double and even triple coverage…aka, play “not so smart.”

Best of all worlds would be for the O line to manage the front 7, the D line to apply good pressure, the Spartan secondary to avoid the big play. If we get behind, and it rests with Hoyer, all bets are off.
