Students exercising for a class in Demonstration Hall had their bags stolen between 1:30-2:04 p.m. Tuesday, said MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor.
Textbooks, keys, iPods and Capital Area Transportation Authority bus passes were all stolen from the bags, which the students left by the building’s main entrance.
The value of the total estimated loss is $6,583.
The students were at Demonstration Hall for a class, and when they returned, their belongings were missing, McGlothian-Taylor said.
There are no suspects.

10/09/08 10:31pmOMG, this just keeps getting better and better. $6k? lols.
First students leave things in classes and lockers, but this time they left it at the main entrance, lols. This is just hilarious. If you gonna leave it at the main entrance, why not just hand all that stuff straight to the thief, this way you wont have to report stuff.

WTF
10/10/08 12:54amHonestly, what the hell is wrong with people these days? What happened to morals and responsibility? Why steal? One day it will come back and bite you in the ass —- they call it karma.
Don’t get me wrong now, I think that people need to be more responsible on where they put their stuff but common guys….stealing…WTF. I don’t understand that shit. Its low.

10/10/08 9:51amDon’t they have somewhere in class that they could put their bags? Why would you leave it by the main entrance of the building? Seriously, I think every freshman should attend a “common sense” class at orientation before stepping foot on campus.

10/10/08 9:57amHow many morons… errrr… students was this? did the whole class get wiped clean? i bet not. i bet there were a couple non-morons that had their stuff with them.

10/10/08 11:58amDon’t cut these students down, things happen to the best of them not just freshmens. Besides there is a lot of teachers that don’t want the stuff in the classroom and when you need to carry the stuff all day what do you people expected. Theres tough times out there and people will resort to other needs to get by. But stealing is wrong no matter what.

10/10/08 1:22pmjust so you all know, i was directly involved in this robbery. we were instructed by our professor to leave our bags unattended at the entrance. msu does not provide a proper place to secure our bags during this class. we did not chose to leave our bags in this spot, where anyone could take our belongings, we were instructed to do so. and it wasn’t all freshman, believe it or not, we do have common sense, but could not override our professor’s instructions to leave our stuff where we did

10/10/08 2:31pmbear….at that point, I would have told your professor to “get bent.” I smell lawsuit against the professor.

10/10/08 2:32pmWell, if the professor told you to put your stuff in an unattended area and it got stolen, I would hope you are attempting to get them to pay for the stuff. You better be complaining like mad to whatever dean is over that program that you need proper space for your stuff.

10/10/08 2:38pmAngel and bear – the students in the class might not have all been freshmen, but if there was some kind of orientation class before you come as a freshman that went over stuff such as “don’t leave your belongings unattended in a common area” then people might think a little more about this. Although I have enough sense to think about this without being told to do so. And if the prof made you put that stuff out there, then you better pressure them like hell to be held accountable for replacing your stuff.

10/10/08 4:44pmno way in hell a prof did get, is getting, or would get me to leave my stuff “by the door”. i’d tell him to piss off. and if it’s a deal breaker? i’m dropping the class and making the biggest stink ever.
i know you don’t want to hear this,… granted you’re not at as much fault at the dickheads that stole from you, but it’s like 51-49.

10/10/08 11:50pmWhile I’m concerned with people stealing (of course), I’m MORE concerned about everyone constantly thinking it’s ok to leave things unattended/unlocked/unsecured/etc.. Every day people get ripped off in this world. The least others could do is wisen up to it and get some common sense, or at least enough to look after their own stuff!
clarify
10/11/08 12:00pmThe article makes it sound like we put our stuff down and then came back to the room to get it when class ended. We were in the same room as our stuff when this happened.

10/12/08 11:08pmTo me it smells like the prof was in on it. The students can probably just buy their stuff back via allmsu where people post stolen items.
