The State News: How would you define your style?
Julia Rushbrook: Elegant, classic and casual. I like understated clothes and a simple look that’s elegant and sleek.
SN: What is the most important aspect of your style?
JR: Accessories. I like to keep my clothes simple and add personality to my outfit with accessories. I love scarves and I love earrings and I try to look for things that have very interesting patterns and colors. I really like jewel tones and I like red and turquoise. I’m a big fan of gold jewelry, too.
SN: Where do you shop?
JR: My favorite stores are Express, Charlotte Russe and Macy’s. I like Express because they have really classic clothing items that never go out of style and I like Charlotte Russe because they have ‘vintage-y’ looking items.
SN: What is your favorite piece of clothing?
JR: I’ve got this big teal shawl that has a paisley design on it. I got it in New York City. I love the color and the pattern.
SN: How has your style changed over time or even since you’ve been at MSU?
JR: Honestly, I feel like it hasn’t changed much. I like for my style to be durable and last throughout the years. I always try to wear things that will never go out of style.
SN: Does where you’re from have any effect on the way you dress?
JR: I am part Russian and I’m always looking for items that have some sort of Russian-inspired aspect to them.
I love my scarves and I always have scarves that are either from Russia or have some Russian pattern on them. Paisley is definitely a more Russian style.
SN: Do you and your friends dress similarly?
JR: My friends are a really eclectic group. I just try to have my own style.
SN: What is your fashion motto?
JR: Whatever you wear, if you wear it with confidence, it will look good.
