Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has made history, becoming the first major black presidential nominee. In five days, the country will decide if he will make history again as the first black president of the United States. The State News interviewed five black MSU students to hear their thoughts about what this means for them and the black community.

whats with all this attention around a black president nominee? If you were truly not racists, you wouldn’t look at his skin color and start writing articles and asking people. You are just proving to everyone that American people still look at the color of someone’s skin. Isn’t this part of racism? Time to stop doing that and actually stop looking at someone’s skin.

I’m very pleased that he, when elected, will be a role model for my nephews. He’ll show them that they can be anything in America, even though there is color in their skin. His policies and plans are great, but how much he will open up America is even better. The hate and fear mongerers along with the crazy Christians can buzz off.
This would make it so inner city youth can aspire to be much more. Or even just anybody, anywhere, can do anything they want. Hopefully he’ll be able to cross boundaries once established by Al Sharpton, and others.
Go Obama!

Socal Spartan, if you honestly believe that Al Sharpton is such a good role model, you have other issues. He and Jesse Jackson have actually created more racism in this country. Please do some research on this man before you start repeating stuff that you hear on CNN and your liberal personalities. Inner city youth aren’t going to look up to Obama or any other politician. Obama, just like every other politician will say things that people want to hear, and then if elected, will go back on his word. All politicians do that, Democrats and Republicans alike.
You have just proven that you don’t think for yourself, but rather, agree with whatever your party believes in without questioning it.
U don't know anything

To the guy above me……..I really think you should study black culture or go live in the inner city for a year or two. Black people have and always will continue to look up to people who make it in society. When joe louis won the heavywieght title, black people danced in the streets in harlem. Ben carson is another one. HE is a very successful black surgeon. At the very least black kids in the inner city look up to drug dealers and pimps, what makes you think obama is an exception? To say inner city youth won’t look up to obama is certainly an opinon of someone who has NEVER stepped foot in the inner city. You probably don’t even know kids from the inner city. I suggest you realize that obama is a definte source of inspiration for me and other black youth from the inner city. You comments show how ignorant you are. Im glad you can comment on stuff you know jack crap about. LOL

Obama is a definite source of inspiration. All you see on television is the black man in handcuffs, dead from violence, or deadbeat dads. Even if obama doesn’t win he definitely beats these stereotypes. He proves that you can have whatever you want in life if you are willing to sacrifice to get it. He is well spoken and a very succesful person. He worked his way from the bottom up. He is a role model for any person. White or black. And thats the bottom line cause stone cold said so. LOL
