Latin events to offer taste of culture

November 9, 2008

Semana Latina is a week of Latin-related events organized to expose MSU students to the culture.

Culturas de la Razas Unidas, or CRU, prepared the week of Latino-enriched cultural events, from film discussions to dance lessons.

At 7 p.m. today in G-8 Holden Hall, CRU will show “City of Men” and host a discussion of the film.

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, a discussion panel will be held on “The Importance of Unity” in Brody multipurpose room A.

On Wednesday, members will teach the basics of Brazilian, Filipino, Mexican or Caribbean dance at “Movimiento Saboroso” at 7 p.m. in McDonel Hall Kiva.

On Thursday, students can travel to 132 Hubbard Hall to learn about the connections between Africans and Latinos in “Africanismo y America Latina.” The event will begin at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, students can learn how to play various Latino games. The games begin at 2 p.m. in the Pub in Gilchrist Hall.

The week of events wrap up at 7 p.m. Sunday in the CRU Room of Wilson Hall, where students can taste a slice of Latin America at “Sabor Latino.”
