The State News spent some time under dietetics sophomore Samantha Gorczewicz’s canopy to discover the inspiration behind her quaint and strategically decorated bedroom.
Gorczewicz’s pink, cream and brown room is small, but still makes you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud.
SN Describe your room.
SG The colors are pink, cream and brown and there’s two pictures on the wall that I based the whole room off of. I loved the pictures, so I decided to base the whole room off of them. It’s just a very cozy room.
SN Are you obsessed with pillows?
SG I have a lot of pillows on my bed. I like to sleep on a cloud so I bring a pillow back from home every time I come back to school. I like to sleep in the middle of my bed and have pillows on the sides of me. My roommate thinks it’s funny when she comes in and she doesn’t realize I’m there because she can’t see me.
SN Why did you put a canopy over your bed?
SG I had one when I was younger, and my parents are divorced and we move a lot so I’ve never been able to really decorate my room. This is the first room I’ve been able to paint and do what I want with.
My dad found it in a magazine and we went to the fabric store and we made it. My dad is very crafty and creative.
SN Would you consider yourself a neat freak?
SG Not really. I have my moments where I like things really clean. During the week my room is usually a mess with work and school, but on the weekends that’s my time to clean before it starts all over again.
SN Does your room reflect your personal style?
SG My room is very girlie. My favorite color is pink so I knew I had to put that in there. The majority of my room is pink. I wear a lot of pink so it definitely matches my personal style.
SN What was the most challenging part about decorating?
SG Having a small bedroom and trying to find a place to put everything. I have a ton more pictures I wanted to put up but I don’t want it to look to cluttered.
I still want room to move around because I spend 90 percent of my time in here.
SN Do you have any advice for people who want to decorate their rooms?
SG Be open-minded and look through a lot of magazines and take ideas from there and go to craft stores.
