Soccer gets bye, No. 4 seed in NCAA
By Alex DiFilippo (Last updated: 11/17/08 9:26pm)If it were basketball, the MSU men’s soccer team would be a No. 1 seed going into the NCAA Tournament.
But because only 48 teams are selected for the tournament, the Spartans earned a No. 4 seed, which guarantees MSU home field advantage until the semifinals.
The Spartans (13-5-1) will face the winner of the Illinois-Chicago vs. Dayton game at 1 p.m. today at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field.
In his last season as head coach, Joe Baum is thrilled with his team’s success as of late and its high ranking in the tournament.
“Our hope was just to make the tournament and now (we are) a No. 4 seed and get a bye and be at home,” Baum said. “It’s like a dream come true.”

11/18/08 1:08pmGreat job guys, I watched the whole game and enjoyed every minute.
On another note, why did it take until Monday to write this article? This is significantly more important than some basketball bullshit, men or women.

11/18/08 10:38pmActually, there are people who care about football including you, margarinepile. Otherwise, why are you here reading this article? Anyways, I think there’s an error in the article. Did the tournament schedule get released Monday and MSU already face the winner of UIC vs. Dayton today?! Did we win?
