After the glow of the nine win season wears off, lets think about what Sparty actually accomplished this year: we won every game we were supposed to. Which is good, until you realize that that was against mid-majors, a Notre Dame team that is falling over itself, and a, to be charitable, weak Big 10 field. Ever ranked opponent we played beat us, and in two of the three games, routed us. That doesn’t make our chances in the bowl game look good. We were the king of the mediocre in the Big 10 this year. If you’ve watched Spartan football in the last few years you know that beating the teams we are supposed to beat is an accomplishment in and of itself. Yes, we lost to all the ranked teams we played. Yes, the Big Ten is not that great. And yes, we still have work to do. But that should not take away from the fact that we have a 9-3 record, which is a pretty damn good in my book. Regardless of how good or bad the teams are that you play, you still have to win the games you are supposed to win.
