Voting at Brody Hall fluctuates as students head to class

By 1 p.m., the influx of students at the polls in Brody Hall increased after a slow period as students attended classes, bringing in a total of 784 votes, said election officials.

Election official for the Brody precinct, Joann Hubbard, said students started coming back at 10:30 a.m.

“There are no major problems, only a couple involving students going to the wrong precinct to vote,” Hubbard said.

Overall, students have been getting out to vote all day.

By 7 a.m., the atmosphere was already in the commons of Brody Hall bustling with eager students lined up out the door waiting to vote.

Co-Chair of the precinct, Sally Burroughs said students started lining up at 6:30 a.m. and officials have been doing their best to process them through quickly.

The waiting time at Brody Hall was consistent at about 40 minutes, based on the last person in line reaching the front.

By 8:15 a.m. 164 students had cast their votes.

The overall theme of the polls has been excitement. Eager students knew the importance of voting and wanted their opinions to count.

“I was the fifth one in line by 6:30 a.m. because we knew this voting process would be a lot and everyone said to get here early,” said freshman political science major Ben Orchanian. “By 6:45 the line was out the door.”

Orchanian was not the only student to realize the importance of voting during this election season, which was a theme throughout the majority of the students.

“It is exciting to be able to make his decision for your country,” said freshman English major Dan Nufer.

13 people will be working each shift to move students along and no major problems have occurred.
