RHA president gives final address

January 29, 2009

MSU Residence Halls Association president Mark Dobson gave his third and final State of the Organization address Wednesday night, calling for positive change.

Dobson, who will step down in April, said RHA can always strive to do better.

“(We) do not rest until all the bad things on campus are good, and all the good things are great,” Dobson said.

Over the past year, RHA has taken up on- and off-campus causes. This year marked the first smoke-free opening of dorms, Dobson said. He also said RHA improved leasing for off-campus students and food choices for those who live on campus, including more vegetarian options.

Dobson targeted improving safety as a goal for the next RHA president. He also mentioned the possibility of creating an RHA director of philanthropy. Other items such as student accountability and on-campus living were addressed.

“RHA is always going to be the voice for the on-campus students,” Dobson said. “We pride ourselves on tradition and consistency. We need to go beyond what our current (goals) are and look to maybe what we can do better.”
