ASMSU revises course-repeat bill

ASMSU’s Academic Assembly code and academic policy committee amended a bill Tuesday to revise the university’s course repeat policy. The University Committee on Academic Policy, or UCAP, is reviewing the policy and asked for ASMSU’s stance.

ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government.

Currently, students can only repeat a class if they receive below a 2.0 — with the second grade replacing the first — and can only repeat 20 credits-worth of classes.

“It’s important to update these policies … and really figure out how it fits in with the university,” said Code and Academic Policy Committee chairwoman Mary Burleson.

The ASMSU committee voted that the policy should read that any student can repeat any course twice, with no limit. Students would only be able to repeat a class if they received a 2.5 or lower and the best grade would be calculated into their grade-point average. The bill advances to Academic Assembly’s general meeting Tuesday.
