Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund will highlight Michigan’s events during National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, with a press briefing at 10 a.m. today at the state Capitol.

The National Eating Disorders Association and the Academy for Eating Disorders have partnered on an advocacy campaign to improve Michigan’s legislation for eating disorder care.

Haglund and her mother, Iora Haglund, will share their experiences with eating disorders.

Kathleen MacDonald, education/prevention coordinator for the Foundation for Recovery and Elimination of Eating Disorders, and Judith Banker, president of the Academy for Eating Disorders, also will speak about treatment options in Michigan.

Similar briefings will take place in all 50 states to promote national eating disorders awareness.
