MSU women’s soccer freshman forward Laura Heyboer was named Freshman of the Year by SoccerBuzz.com, the Web site announced last week.

Heyboer — who scored 21 goals and totaled 51 points while leading the MSU women’s soccer team to a 14-7-3 record and the second round of the NCAA Championships — also became the first player in MSU history to earn SoccerBuzz.com second-team All-America honors.

Heyboer, along with fellow MSU freshman Katelin Chaklos, a defenseman, earned Freshman All-America team honors. Heyboer was on the first team while Chaklos, who started all 24 games last season, earned second-team honors.
