Visiting professor appreciates resident, student hospitality

This past weekend, three friends and I (all present or former Penn State University faculty members) came to East Lansing for our annual Penn State men’s basketball away game.

The MSU game finished our circuit of all Big Ten venues over the past 12 years.

We were treated with great respect and friendliness by all of the Spartan students, fans and local merchants when they found that we were visiting from Penn State.

People stopped their cars on campus to assist us when they saw us using a map for directions, folks in bars bought us free drinks and the students at the game welcomed us.

The school spirit and enthusiasm demonstrated by the students at the game was most impressive, as good or better than any that we have seen in our trips around the league. The band was great.

Though we cannot apologize for the Penn State victory, it was an exciting game and we want to thank everyone at MSU and East Lansing with whom we had contact for their great courtesy and welcoming behavior. Go Green.
