MSU junior Franklin Gomez defended his Big Ten title in the 133-pound weight class on Monday, earning the title against Ohio State’s Reece Humphrey in State College, Penn.
Gomez, who went 4-0 in the Big Ten Tournament, won the match in a 7-4 overtime decision, making Humphrey his second top-10 victim of the weekend. With the win, Gomez became just the 16th Spartan in MSU wrestling history to win back-to-back conference titles.
Redshirt freshman Eric Olanowski and sophomore Anthony Jones Jr. will join Gomez at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis from March 19-21.
Olanowski and Jones Jr. each finished seventh in the 125- and 157-pound classes, respectively, to punch their tickets to the NCAA Finals.
